The final course in the series continues your journey in furniture making, focusing on power tools, machine techniques, and refined joinery. Building on the skills from Foundations of Furniture Making, this class teaches you how to safely and effectively take rough lumber through the milling process — jointing faces and edges, ripping to width, planing to thickness, and crosscutting to final length — ensuring all boards are accurately squared and ready for precise joinery.
A key component of the class is frame-and-panel construction, which allows for seasonal wood movement. Students will learn to make tongue-and-groove joints using both a router table and a dado blade, while also using the tapering jig to shape furniture legs. Additional machine skills include using the router with a jig to create half-blind dovetails, the router table for chamfered edges, and the Festool Domino for accurate, efficient joinery.
By the end of this nine-week course, students will have built a beautiful piece of furniture — an entryway table — while gaining confidence and proficiency with the most common power tools in a home workshop. This class completes the core series, equipping you with a solid foundation in woodworking techniques, and the skills, precision, and craft mindset needed to take on future furniture projects.
