Intro to Bowl Turning

A one day class designed to teach the basics of cross-grain woodturning. Students end the day with a finished bowl turned from dry wood. The class will cover safety, safety equipment, turning tools and lathes, work holding, design, basic cross-grain turning, shaping on the lathe, hollowing, reverse chucking and finishing. Woodturning tools will include traditional gouges as well as newer carbide tipped tools.

Beginner and Intermediate Woodturning

Intro to Spindle Turning

A one day class designed to teach the basics of spindle turning. Students will end the day with a selection of finished bottle stoppers, small kitchen tools or other spindle projects. The class will cover safety, safety equipment, turning tools and lathes, work holding, design, basic spindle turning, shaping on the lathe and finishing. Spindle projects can include pizza cutters screwdrivers, ornaments, candle-holders, tool handles etc. Woodturning tools will include traditional gouges as well as the newer carbide tipped tools.

Pens and Stoppers

Learn the essentials of spindle turning and make a pen and a bottle stopper.

Prerequisite: None. No experience necessary.

Skills include:
  • Making a project in multiple parts.
  • Making an alternate type of bottom.
  • Making a feature ring.
  • Making thin rings.

All projects wood will be provided. Turning tools will also be provided if you do not have your own. Bring your own personal protection equipment.

Prerequisites:

Completion of  Introduction to Segmented Woodturning, or have a basic understanding of the segmenting process.

Dates

Intermediate Segmented Wood Turning

October 14, 21 and 28, 2023
Saturdays, 9am – 4pm, with a break for lunch

This class assumes that each student has a basic understanding of the segmenting process. By completing the class project, each student will learn a number of new techniques and leave with a finished segmented vase.

Multi-Axis Turning

October 11, 12 and 13, 2024
$300

This inaugural class will explore the essential methods of multi-axis turning through hands-on projects designed to teach this fascinating and challenging craft. Safety is the first consideration in this class. Participation in this class requires a solid background in basic woodturning techniques. For this reason, participation in this class is subject to approval. The class size will be limited to a maximum of six students in order to provide everyone with plenty of attention. If you are interested, please register early.
